Are they rare.Can you find them on your own bakcyard?I’ve never seen in life but they have found many where i live.
rarely seen, but widespread. antlions generally are pretty good at not being seen.
if you have a chance to put out a blacklight sheet, you might have more luck - but don’t get your hopes up.
i’ve seen one (!) adult owlfly
Craziest owlfly night I ever had was in eastern Texas. Just as it was getting dark, the dirt road we were parked along came alive with them. They were flying about 1 foot from the ground in a zigzag pattern and would have been easily missed without a head lamp. We had 4 MV light setups in the area and got only a couple at the lights, despite seeing dozens flying. So they do come to lights, and I’ve gotten most of the North American species at lights at this point, but I think it’s a weak attraction, so they’re usually overlooked.
