I don’t see this information anywhere on the Taxon page, for Odonata, for example. It would be great if experts on the taxon would be lead advisors for the way a taxon gets curated. So they’d respond to flags, and make taxonomy adjustments or whatnot. Does this exist and I’m simply not seeing it? If not, what is the current way method? I don’t think random curators should be handling taxon flags out of their area of expertise, and that’s probably not happening (much? at all?) but on the flip side, we DO need experts making decisions on the taxon flags as they arise.
You can view curators who frequently interact with or resolve flags on odonates here: https://www.inaturalist.org/flags?utf8=✓&flagger_type=any&flagger_name=&flagger_user_id=&user_name=&user_id=&flaggable_type=Taxon&taxon_name=Odonata&taxon_id=47792&deleted=any&reason_query=&resolved=any&resolver_name=&resolver_user_id=&commit=Filter&utf8=✓&flagger_user_id=&commit=Filter
Most curators on iNaturalist are not taxonomists. We are simply tasked (as volunteers, with no minimum participation requirements) to follow the Curator Guide policies to help resolve taxonomic and other issues.
It looks like you’ve created one flag (30 min ago) on a taxon in your time using iNat. I suggest making more flags on issues that you notice so that you can see how the system works. It’s definitely not perfect, but more experience may be enlightening!
The basic honesty of those responsible for substantive supervision is very important, because if someone is not an expert in a given topic, they should direct their question to experts, they should try to find such experts on the portal; unfortunately, it happens that the opinion of experts is ignored…
Some time ago I flagged something, but it doesn’t show up when I use the link above. (Yes I changed the taxon.) What does that mean? Or if you search for my user, nothing pops up either..
I was always wondering why I never got a response..
Try searching “All” rather than just “Taxon” - it seems that you added the flag to an identification rather than to the taxon: https://www.inaturalist.org/flags?utf8=✓&flagger_type=user&flagger_name=belgianferns&flagger_user_id=5346162&user_name=&user_id=&flaggable_type=all&taxon_name=&taxon_id=&deleted=any&flags[]=inappropriate&flags[]=other&reason_query=&resolved=any&resolver_name=&resolver_user_id=&commit=Filter&utf8=✓&flagger_user_id=&commit=Filter
ooooooh I see.. thank you.
