How to promote synonyms to accepted names after genus transfer?

Hello,

Recently I took on the task of updating the orchid genus Aspidogyne to Microchilus in accordance with POWO: https://powo.science.kew.org/taxon/urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:325651-2

Many of the species epithets are different between the two genera; For instance, Aspidogyne argentata is now Microchilus argenteus. To address this issue, I went through the entire species list and added the correct Microchilus synonyms to each species with a different epithet under the assumption that they would take priority with the Genus level taxon change. However, the incorrect epithets simply transferred over with the taxon change, despite having the correct name in the synonym section.

Is there a way to work around this without having to do an individual taxon swap for each species (approximately 10-20 that need to be corrected)? How do I go about preventing this in the future?

Thank you for your time and help,

Nicolas D. Perez

there is not. The individual species must all be swapped over manually as well

in this scenario, do not add the new names as synonyms to the old names; swap each species over manually using a taxon swap, and then the Aspidogyne names will automatically be shown as synonyms under each new Microchilus name

Did you perhaps tick the box that says “move children to output”?

That would create new combinations with incorrect gender terminations. I never tick that box because, apart from gender issues, under ICN you run the risk of creating combinations in the target genus that aren’t validly published. It’s OK under ICZN because new combinations are not nomenclatural acts.
