I can agree with my own annotations

Platform: Website

Browser: Chrome

As you know, annotations may be added on any observations page or in “bulk” fashion with the Identify tool. Using either input method, perform the following two steps:

  1. Annotate some observation
  2. Agree with the previous annotation, that is, click the “thumbs up” icon

Regardless of the annotation attribute, the second step above will succeed. This is a bug since presumably users should not be able to agree with their own annotations.

The same thing happens if the “thumbs down” icon is clicked.

This is intentional behavior - see comments here: https://github.com/inaturalist/inaturalist/issues/1775

I read all the comments but I don’t understand the “intentional behavior” you’re referring to. I must be missing something.

The system is intentionally designed such that users can agree with their own annotations.

Why is that desirable?

unrelated.

I don’t think it is desirable, which is why I commented saying so on the github issue.
