This week I finally identified some beans that I’ve been watching here in Haiti. The local people are casually growing a strain of Phaseolus dumosus. Apparently its been around here for years. This is a pretty big deal. The USDA is growing multiple cultivars of this species from Central America but none from the Carribean islands. If I mark it cultivated how will anyone know it’s here? It would be a huge loss if this cultivar goes extinct but I don’t know if anyone grows these beyond my little region anywhere in the world. Who can I contact that might be interested in preserving this strain?
