For the sakes of identification, it would be great if we could sort by number of comments easily. Sometimes identifiers leave links to useful resources or even provide detailed comments on how to identify a certain species.
I think it would be a shame if these comments get lost in a sea of observations and this would make them at least somewhat easier to find.
I think it would also be an appreciation of the identifier’s time to write the comment, might encourage more of them to do so, and help them by making more people able to identify their own observations.
P.S.: This thread is quite long, and I didn’t read everything. I apologise if this has been said before
Yes, that’s how I understood it, too: comments on observations on iNat, rather than replies to forum threads. I also wished there was a way to sort observations for number of comments (including comments hiding in IDs).
Hi,
I was wondering if we could add a “not in the project” filter.
I miss it and would ike to use it as i add observation mannualy to my project. It would help a lot to avoid oppening all observation in new tab to check if we already added it or not.
Thx
Hi. Two features that would be super cool according to me, in Explore → species tab.
1- currently species are sorted by number of observations. Would be great to sort them by taxonomic order.
2- currently there is an icon/mark indicating species status on the image of each species (for example, N for Native). I would LOVE to also see an icon/mark (like a tick) indicating if I have already observed the species (anywhere [most important] and in the selected region [less important]).
On the Explore page, observations with sound are filtered and displayed with a speaker icon. When clicking the icon, instead of going into the detail page, the sound should be played straight away. This could be as simple as just play the sound, or better if a pop-up window with a controllable speaker (as in the detail page) is displayed. When you click other parts on an observation (other than on the icon directly), you should still be directed to the detail page.
When there are more than one sound file in that observation, you can simply play the first one, or have more control with a pop-up window.
Some related feature suggestions:
On this same page, when clicking on the observer, one is directed to his/her home page. Likewise, when clicking the name of the species (or any taxon it displays), one should be directed to that taxon page, instead of the detail page of the observation.
Going even further, when clicking/hovering over the photo icon of an observation (without sound), a zoomed up photo or even a pop-up photo viewer should be displayed to enable users to quickly go over them.
Unsure if this is the correct place to be suggesting this, and apologies if something along these lines has been suggested already if so, but it’s been fun trying to visit every nearby grid square where I live and see how many of these can be filled in with an observation. Obscured observations still get counted on the map as though they’re of equal priority, which often interferes with this task. I know it’s possible to append &geoprivacy=open to the URL to exclude these, but could there also be some way of having them both visible at the same time but clearly distinct (with open observations taking priority over obscured observations)? Obscured squares could be colored blue instead of orange, for instance.
This is a comparison of open and obscured (left) versus open only (right)
