(Moved this to Nature Talk because it has no direct relationship to iNaturalist.)

I was in Ridgecrest a few weeks ago with some fellow iNatters. Hoping for a swift recovery there. For humans as well as ants.

Could someone please explain this like I’m five? I’m having a hard time telling what’s going on in these photos regarding both the ants and the earthquake.

The fault ruptured through a portion of the anthill. I reconstructed the anthill so you can see what it looked like before the earthquake.
