Like many iNaturalist users, I have a desire to share my nature observations and associated media with as broad an audience as possible. Using iNaturalist’s default CC-BY-NC license, I thought I was doing that. However a recent publication by @andrawaag and others has pointed out that this particular license does not allow sharing with Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons. So if you an interested in sharing your iNaturalist observations and media with these other online resources it is recommended that you select either a CC0 or CC-BY license as your default options. It take just a few click to do this for your iNaturalist account, and can be applied to all your existing iNaturalist observations.
