Inactive taxon name: can't get rid of it

Description of problem (please provide a set of steps we can use to replicate the issue, and make as many as you need.):

Step 1: Click on Manage names

Step 2: Click on Edit next to the “English” name

Step 3: Get whale shark

Two issues here:

  1. English name is struckthrough on taxon page, but shows on IDs on obs.

  2. English name shows under Manage names but is uneditable due to a rather lovely whale shark having eaten it.

EDIT: My aim is to make the English name properly inactive (it is misspelt apart from anything else).
