iNat Milestones

I documented my 2,500th species of bird on a trip to Brazil last month. I put a lot of work into those observations and a lot of practice at getting clear photos of skulky little birds in low-light conditions.

If I’ve ID’d this rotifer correctly, it’s iNat species #12,000 for me :O

255 thousand ids and 28 thousand annotations … and so close to 5 thousand species observed

Just passed 5k observations!

Hit 14,000 observations today.

Have been chasing 200K IDs. With 1K IDs added for CNC26 I have reached my target.

For Ostrava which has so many enthusiastic obs this year - honourable mention to @peakaytea and @igor_kuzmin who are the leading identifiers there. Thank you both !

With the City Challenge posts, there is a whole bunch more needing help.

Managed to catch my ID’s count at this number!!

65065 IDs for others!

Recently passed 10,000 annotations!

0.5 million European caterpillars:

I’m still processing my backlog of photographs but I did hit a nice milestone along the way:

I’ve hit the 2000 species mark (admittedly, not all confirmed and RG) before I hit 5000 observations.

The ratio will continue to go down as the processing continues, but I’m quite chuffed about getting to the species count so soon. And I’d like to thank all 435 identifiers who have helped with me get my observations right.

A Triple 10. Nice!

I’ll share my numbers too. The City Nature Challenge has really motivated me to do more identifications lately.

By no means a huge milestone. Maybe a milepebble?

I have been trying to address primarily Needs IDs in my local CNC and tagging in identifiers where appropriate. I don’t have a lot of specialist knowledge but I have learned to recognize a lot of local species over these years.

I was excited to see the RG for the project move up as I worked and then I remembered that you could order the projects by the metric you chose so I decided to look at the identifiers tab.

I was sort of stunned but felt a wave of pride to see myself in that top place. I know this is teeny beanies, but I am really proud of myself for taking on this new role, especially since for the last year I have honestly felt rather disconnected.

No need to place size on any of this. Each person has different levels of expertise and time to spend here. Yes, be proud of yourself. You did it and helped move along a project.

I just hit 50,000 barnacle IDs! This is an under-loved group with a lot of cryptic species, so most of my IDs are just for the more common species of sessile barnacles.

Thanks for that! (I’d post more barancles if there were hope of getting trustworthy ID’s.)

I’d post more barnacles if I lived where we had them

Ha! Second that.
