Incorrect place boundary for Brunei

Description of problem

My observation of a bird species (Anthracoceros albirostris) in Brunei does not appear in the search results when I search for Brunei observations of that species.

Step 1:
Go to https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/255477873
Note that the observation of Anthracoceros albirostris is in Brunei.

Step 2:
Search for all Brunei observations of Anthracoceros albirostris: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?place_id=7838&taxon_id=5551&verifiable=any

Notice that the observation in Step 1 is missing from the list of observations in Step 2.

The problem is caused by incorrect place boundaries for Brunei:

  • Thick orange line: iNaturalist place boundary for Brunei.
  • Purple line: actual border.
  • Red arrow: approximate location of bird observation which falls outside iNaturalist’s (incorrect) place boundary.

Brunei is a small country. Please fix Brunei’s place boundaries, especially around roads and populated areas.

hi @cwfoo, this is more of an issue with a specific iNat place rather than a bug in the system, so I moved the issue over to a flag here: https://www.inaturalist.org/flags/716115
