Hi everyone — I hope it’s okay to add a small update here. A moderator suggested this would be the most findable place for it.
Some years after this discussion, I ended up creating a project inspired by this very idea: iMineralogist, an independent app for rocks, minerals, fossils, and field observations.
It brings together geological context, mineral localities, fossil sites, and a way for users to record their own finds with photos, location, notes, and field details.
The iOS app is already live, and the Android version is currently in closed beta testing. I would be very glad to include anyone here who is interested in trying it and sharing honest feedback.
To avoid turning this forum thread into an app discussion, please feel free to message me directly if you’d like to test the Android version or share thoughts.
