Is there any way to resize the bounding box when doing searches?

Would be great if this was possible

One trick is to adjust the size of your browser window and then click the orange redo search button. You can also edit the coordinates in the URL directly.

Improvements to the bounding box user interface have been suggested here: https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/ideas-for-a-revamped-explore-observations-search-page/8439

You can make the bounding box a circle by editing the URL:

Here’s the sample URL from the linked comment:

Thanks. Yes, i’m aware of this trick but it still only gives rectangular areas. If i want to search in a very specific, irregularly shaped area like western Ecuador excluding the Galapagos, or a narrow N-S aligned mountain range in New Guinea then this does not work very well at all.

Thanks for the link as well. I’m glad i’m not the only one to suggest this.

Thanks for the link. That’s very interesting, however, i personally feel that it would be great if there was an option for us to draw our own boundaries and search within that

I agree, the option to add a custom AOI, as many other sites do (especially ones associated with GIS applications) would be extremely useful.
