Location code for lower 48 states

Hi,

I am unable to find a GADM code that represents the lower 48 US states only (excluding Alaska and Hawaii). Have I overlooked this somehow? If not can such a code be created?

first a couple of clarifications:

  • GADM is a set of data that contains administrative boundaries. the lower 48 is not an administrative unit. so i’d be surprised if GADM represents it as an individual entity.

  • although iNaturalist uses GADM as the source of boundaries for most “standard” places in the system, it uses US Census data as the source for such boundaries in the United States.

that said, as far as i know, there is no place in iNaturalist that has been created – neither “standard” nor community-created – for some variation of the lower 48. however, if you want to query for observations found only within the lower 48, you can filter for observations in the United States (place_id=1) excluding Alaska and Hawaii (not_in_place=6,11): https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?place_id=1&not_in_place=6,11&subview=map
