I live near the Appalachians, but I’d have to drive several hours to see this grasshopper, as I live in western North Carolina near the South Carolina line, and the grasshopper has been observed northeast of Roanoke, Virginia.
This is just fantastic. No simpler way to put it.

Not quite as exciting, but this little grasshopper turned up at edge-of-range after several decades of absence with some very sharp people looking for it unsuccessfully: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/296607919
Interesting that @18:44 they don’t credit iNaturalist users at all, but the state employee that was acting on their findings. Seems more than an oversight since it’d take away from that individual, but add to the motivation for users to get out and look for lost or new species.
