Lately, a bunch of Monarch butterflies that have recently emerged from their chrysalises have had problems. One has had underdeveloped wings, and another has trouble emerging from the pupa. There are also some that seem fully developed but are not emerging. Is there any chance that there is a virus or that the milkweed plant was contaminated?

While Ophryocystis can impair wing formation, wing deformity is not necessarily caused by pathogens.
