What are you up to?!
- Waiting for
- Seeing/Hearing/Reading
- Eating (or not eating!)
- Preserving
- Upcoming events
etc.
It is now mid-March and I am awaiting the spring morels with much anticipation. Had a lot of strong rains and they should start when the soils hit 45-50F. Also hearing that it should be a great year for burn morels.
In April the awesome Myco Events of PNW will begin the activities. Will be participating in as many events as possible. (A brief calendar is on top of my profile and a full list of sources are at the very bottom of my journal, both updated regularly.)
April is also when the Turkey Tails will have a peak flush, so I will be dehydrating a good stock to last till the next peak, which is typically in November.

March 20. First landscaping morel sighting in BC. So we should be seeing them anytime in OR/WA. Perhaps after these current rains.
What am I up to? School, mostly :( Last week I visited a park that I hadn’t been to before. There is definitely a noticeable rebound in the number of fungi. The frosts are (hopefully) over and Spring is right around the corner! I don’t know though, it was quite cold today and we’ve been getting pounded by rain. Windstorm in the forecasts as well.
I saw the BC observation of M. importuna, I’m quite excited. I discovered a patch growing in my backyard mulch beds last year. Hopefully they come back again, but if they do, it will be later in the spring (late April for this patch.)
I’m excited for some opportunities that will come with Spring. Cortinariaceae and Hygrophoraceae have been of special interest to me lately, and I’d like to document some Spring Corts and waxcaps. I’m not sure though, waxcap season may already be over. I’m also excited for some possible mountain forays. Natural morels and Spring Kings await!
Lots of lifers. Finding Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata would be cool!

Good plans you have.
All the current rains and recent cold dips should be a good primer for what is to come. I think this year will be a memorable one.
Salem

April 3: 57/33
Tacoma

So I think/hope that the next cold snap will trigger a lot of simultaneous flushes.
