- A parasite dad joke: fleas on a dog’s back
- Dog Flea Ctenocephalides canis on iNaturalist
- The comic is Safely Endangered, by Chris McCoy
Another great one from birdandmoon.com. I personally can never get enough humor about the intense rage and territorial behavior of adorable hummingbirds.
Rufous vs. Broad-tailed: The War of the Ring (Feeder)!
With the magenta on the forehead I believe that is meant to be an Anna’s Hummingbird.
You’re right. We get a lot more Broad-tailed than Anna’s in Colorado, though, so that’s what I’m used to seeing.
(Then there was one afternoon at the late, lamented Echo Lake Lodge Restaurant when I saw at least two—possibly three— species of females all sharing one multi-port feeder, taking turns, and looking over at the boys like ‘what is their major malfunction?’) ![]()
Lol!! Sometimes I see my ruby-throated hummingbirds chasing each other and making their cute little hummingbird noises (see: ebird.org/species/rthhum) ![]()
I’m listening to angry twittering right now from my back porch feeder. Rufous vs. Black-chinned. Will there ever be hummingbird peace in our time?
I don’t know if this one’s been posted before but it always makes me laugh out loud.
Admittedly, pbfcomics.com is a little extreme for many, but it’s very original. And okay, maybe the ‘nature’ quotient of this one is pretty thin, but still…
Years ago I noticed the hummingbirds seemed to let me come close if I was wearing a particular red dress. This comic from Rosemary Mosco (Bird and Moon) reassured me I was not the only one wondering if they were, in fact, observing us.
