Perhaps I am missing it, but it does not appear that the new app contains any way to change the order of photos when editing an observation with multiple photos. In the old app this process is very simple and on the website it is more cumbersome but still doable. The new app does have a way to change which photo is used for CV, which is nice, but I also want to be able to change the photo that appears first.
You can press and drag to move them around
Thank you. I tried to find a solution to that too, and even tried long pressing, but it probably didn’t register on my phone. ^^
Thank you! I assumed it was something like that but could not get it to work. I think this feature needs to be more sensitive. After receiving the explanation I was able to get it to work.
Do you think the response time should be shorter, if possible? We can’t make it too short since tapping does something different.
Yes, I think so. Attempting to move one picture without the “long hold” moves the whole set of pictures, which is not particularly useful unless there are more than about 4 images. Tapping one picture brings up a larger version of the picture with a black background and small thumbnails at the bottom.
I would suggest that the response time should be shorter on the “edit observation” screen and also it should be possible to reorder the pictures by long hold on the black background screen.
I think that would work. I compared it to the long press on apple apps (photos in this case) and there it seems to be a bit shorter. According to google it’s 0.5 seconds. What is it currently in iNat Next?
On apple apps you also usually get a haptic feedback which essentially lets you know when you have selected something and can move it around. Would that be an option for iNat as well maybe? (I know nothing about programming, so idk how hard these things are to implement)
I like the haptic feedback idea!
Keep in mind that if you are selecting images from the photo collection on your phone, the sequence in which you select them will be the order in which they appear in the observation. This is true on the website, the old iOS app, and the new app.
This is true and I always try to post the best picture first. However, when looking at and posting pictures on my phone, it is not always easy to figure out which one is the best/clearest picture. Sometimes I have to upload first and then rearrange after looking at them further. Also, sometimes I upload the original pictures and then decide to go back and crop one or more to isolate the organism. When I do that, I like to be able to move the cropped image up to first place.
Note that with iNat Next, if you select multiple photos for import they won’t be turned into a single observation but instead will take you to the Group Photos screen, where you can select a batch of photos to combine into one observation. The selection order on this page is the important one for ordering photos in an observation.
I like how when you are checking on CV recommendations on an observation with multiple photos you quickly get new recommendations by changing the selected photo. That could also be used to identify which photo might be the most supportive of the ID.
