Description of problem:
I don’t expect this observation to appear as research grade. In my understanding, to reach research grade, an observation needs to have 2/3rds ID agreement at the species level or better. This observation only has one ID at the species level.
I included the screenshot showing that one observer says “no” to “Based on the evidence, can the Community Taxon be improved?”. The community taxon panel seems to be convinced that this observation is “research grade” at genus Typha, a state which I thought was impossible because Typha is not species level or better. Even worse, at the top of the page, it displays “Research Grade” next to the species level ID (not the community ID) which would mislead one to believe that this ID is confirmed by a second user.
Unfortunately while making this bug report, I accidentally clicked the “no” to “Based on the evidence, can the Community Taxon be improved?”, which seems like it transitioned the observation to Casual. So you’ll have to see the screenshots above to understand what it looked like for me. It’s also not obvious to me that 2 people saying this can’t be ID’d to the species should make it become casual, but that’s a separate issue. (What about for very difficult species complexes of plants where observations to the species complex should be encouraged?)
I also included a screenshot of the map showing the green county that seems to be a result of this observation, though I am not exactly sure of the intended behavior of these green zones in the map.
