Hi all, I’m really struggling to work out why this observation of mine has become Casual grade. I had ‘can the community taxon be improved’ ticked as yes because this was uploaded back in the day when I didn’t fully understand how that worked, but it shouldn’t cause the observation to become casual because the community taxon is below family level. None of the other DQA votes have been ticked, and the ‘items needed to achieve Research Grade’ section is completely empty:
Reindexing changes nothing, although removing my vote at the bottom takes it back to Needs ID. I cannot think of this being anything other than a bug because I’ve had almost identical sightings behave normally.
As an aside, please don’t counteract my vote at the bottom - it’s there for demonstrative purposes for now and I can of course easily fix it by removing my vote.

It’s precisely because you have “No, it’s as good as it can be” because “Community Taxon matches Observation Taxon” which is a result of a change in this thread: https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/research-grade-with-only-one-id-at-that-rank/3270 . Staff made a change with how basically the whole research grade and needs ID format works and this is an unintended consequence, and I would recommend that any additional concerns be brought up there. I put in my grievances there and offered a solution because I’m not a very big fan of this change because of this particular oversight, it’s happening with a lot of observations across the site since the change was implemented about 8 days ago.

Ahhh I see! I will have a read of it. From a quick scan it seems like that’s certainly the explanation, but it doesn’t solve the issue so I’ve unticked the ‘solution’ check on your comment
