Description of problem (please provide a set of steps we can use to replicate the issue, and make as many as you need.):
It seems that for a few days now, uploading photos via the iNaturalist application on Android does not retain the metadata (EXIF) of the photos.
However, this metadata was being stored on the same device (Samsung Galaxy A52) a week ago :

interesting. i’m guessing some of the recent changes to address photo rotation probably broke this.
Out of curiosity, were these changes 2 weeks ago? I’m wondering if that’s why all of my observations 2 weeks and older won’t load images.

i’m guessing these were the changes that could have broken this: https://github.com/inaturalist/iNaturalistAndroid/commit/616d6aeb90625328e5d9890296470417f9e0ac2c .
these changes are a little older than 2 weeks, but there’s some time between committing the code and deploying it to all the Android iNat users out there.
it sounds unrelated, but i’m not sure since you haven’t provided much information here. if you’re having problems, you probably need to provide more information in a (separate) bug report here in the forum or in a support ticket in the helpdesk (help.inaturalist.org ).
Same issue here: I took pictures with a Pixel 5. Then I uploaded them with Photos app > share > iNat app
Exif are lost if you click on the “i” photo link, but not on the observation: GPS and time are displayed on iNat. For example: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/249774629 iNat app has been able to read GPS and timestamp from the photos, but removed them from the photo link here: https://www.inaturalist.org/photos/446564295
It’s quite new: no issue with this https://www.inaturalist.org/photos/443988957 taken on october 21, exif removed from https://www.inaturalist.org/photos/444203349 on october 22.

Which version are you using?
Sorry for the delay in replying.
But the problem seems to have been solved during December.
Today I have the 1.36.2 (622) version
