Placeholder text no longer visible on Identify

In the last couple of days when identifying “Unknowns”, I’ve been surprised when then adding annotations to see that there is placeholder text listed in the Placeholder Backup observation field, but I didn’t notice a placeholder was present. The first couple of times I thought I had just missed seeing it, but after it happening a few times I realised that I’m not overlooking them, the placeholders just aren’t showing for Unknowns any more:

So what happened? Does this mean that if the Placeholder Backup process hasn’t run, placeholders won’t be seen at all?

Not totally sure if an intentional or unintentional change, but the Identify page recently changed to using API v2, so I moved it to Bug Reports in case it is an unintentional change from that.

Thank you. I didn’t know if this was a deliberate change (in which case there should be an announcement or something), or unintended.

Ooo, that would be bad because I rely on that placeholder text a lot for unknowns.

Maybe this has been resolved? I’ve just seen an observation with a placeholder displayed as they used to be, anyway. Will keep looking.

Thanks for reporting. This was an unintentional side effect after we migrated the Identify page to use V2 of our API. Yesterday we released a fix to address this. Hopefully placeholders appear in the taxon name portion of the observation modal windows as they did previously
