Psychadelic fish

I often enjoy browsing iNat observations and taxa just for the purpose of finding interesting organisms I hadn’t previously known existed. During one of these browsing sessions I stumbled upon the Mandarinfish which sent me spiraling down a rabbit hole. The Yellowbanded pipefish, the Blue Triggerfish… And don’t even get me started on the Surge and Klunzinger’s wrasses!

Marine life has never been my personal niche of choice but even I must admit that these are some truly stunning species. So I ask, fish-enjoyers of iNat, what are some of your favorite fever-dream-esque fish?

I really like clown trigger fish and moon wrasses.

Cuttlefish, especially Metasepia pfefferi, and the potently venomous blue-ringed octopus. They’re about as trippy as it gets. Far out, man ~

If you want something really psychedelic, you should check out UV biofluorescence in fish.

And some fish, when eaten, will cause people to hallucinate.
