Received 100+ Likes and Gave 100+ Likes, but Haven't Received Badge

I was going through badges and found that there is a badge for receiving over 100 likes, and for giving over 100 likes. I am now over 200 for each, but haven’t received the badge. Is this because this is a higher level badge, and I am only a member?? Just curious, is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Here is the badge in question

I think it is received a like on 100 unique posts, not received 100 likes in total.

Just a note that the forum badges are a Discourse thing, not related to iNat. Staff and Mods don’t award badges, so if there are questions it will often be best to check the Discourse documentation/posts on the meta forum, eg:

The first half is based on number of your posts with likes, not total number of likes.

Badges are often awarded very slowly by the Discourse servers. It depends on the badge. Some badges are awarded instantly. Other badges take vastly more than the official requirements to achieve.

As above, there are forums and Discords etc. for Discourse where you can read more about the process. But it’s opaque. I’ve even seen a badge where it was clear that the creator of Discourse did not understand how the badge was awarded!

One thing that Tony told me, that was helpful, is to go to the badge and click on it, and you can see the most recent users who received that badge. Then you can check their qualifications for the badge, and it will let you know if this is a badge that is granted instantly by the Discourse servers, or whether this is one of those badges that takes forever to be awarded.

Incidentally, badge appreciation or motivation varies widely on the iNat Forum. Some folks click on their two favourite badges, while other users (most?) are completely indifferent to badges, or even find them to be a distracting nuisance.

I suppose the last badge I was excited about was the one I got for knot tying in Scouts.

I am most excited to discover a new badge. When I’m on my 121st “Nice Reply” badge, it doesn’t seem like much of an achievement anymore; but when I receive my first instance of a given badge, that does feel like an achievement. Unlocking a new color of badge is exciting, too.

Thanks! That’s might it :)

I have visited the Forum for 365 days in a row, but no Devotee badge for me, so perhaps it’s just glitchy sometimes?

I used to collect badges and pins, stuck them on a piece of styrofoam covered with fabric.
If I got my badges as actual metal badges, I could wear them as conversation starters. Don’t know what to do with electronic ones, can’t trade them.

Yeah, I guess we just have to wait and see…

Haha, I’m a girl scout, so collecting badges is kind of an obsession

That’s one of the badges that usually shows up within a day or two after hitting the requirement. From what I understand, the Discourse servers check badge eligibility in background cycles. So it’s not instant, and they don’t check everyone all the time. If you’re positive that you DID visit the iNat Forum every single day for 365 days, it might just be lagging a little.

I think digital badges are amazing! They’re visible to people all over the world — not just the few humans who are lucky enough to meet you in person. Digital badges give others a sense of how engaged you are in this community.

And if you do want something physical, there’s nothing stopping you from turning digital badges into real items. You could 3D print them, custom print some stickers, custom print t-shirts or ball caps, etc. There’s a lot of ways to create unique items that start conversations!
