Removing photos from old observations when adding new ones

Please fill out the following sections to the best of your ability, it will help us investigate bugs if we have this information at the outset. Screenshots are especially helpful, so please provide those if you can.

Platform (Android, iOS, Website): Android 8.0.0 OPR1.170623.032, Xiaomi Mi5 device

App version number, if a mobile app issue (shown under Settings): 1.18.5 (411)

Browser, if a website issue (Firefox, Chrome, etc) :

URLs (aka web addresses) of any relevant observations or pages:

Screenshots of what you are seeing (instructions for taking a screenshot on computers and mobile devices: https://www.take-a-screenshot.org/):

I can’t add more than 1 screenshot as a new user, but I tried to describe everything as detailed as possible
Description of problem (please provide a set of steps we can use to replicate the issue, and make as many as you need.):

My level of English is low, so the rest of the text is Google translation
Step 1: I choose a previously taken photo in the gallery on the phone

Step 2: I click send, and I choose iNaturalist

Step 3: When previewing the observations, for some reason, photos of my previously made observations appear.
Step 4: They interfere with determining the type
Step 5:So I deleted them. However, it turned out that extra photos deleted in the new observation disappear in the old observations.

When I discovered this, to provide more information in the bug report, I checked the following:

  1. If you post an observation without editing the preview, then on the platform a new observation will only be with a new photo.
  2. If you cancel the observation, and then re-send the same photo, then there will be no “extra” photos. But when sending the next observation, the situation will repeat itself.

Unfortunately, I later discovered this error and I lost photos on about 200 old observations. Is it possible to restore them?

We are working on a fix to prevent this in the future.

I imagin observations like these are the ones which lost photos? https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?page=10&place_id=any&subview=table&user_id=sansan_94&verifiable=any

OK, all but perhaps a few of the most recent photos should now be restored, I’m sorry that this bug caused you to delete them by accident. We’re testing out a potential fix for this problem right now.

Thank you so much for the recovered photos.
Of course, my fault was also in their removal, but I just could not think that I really could edit the old observation when loading a new one.
P.S. I uninstalled the application and installed it again. The problem has disappeared.
