Any movement on this request?
Someone is adding a whole lot of Afrikaans names onto iNaturalist, and adding them to the region “southern Africa”. As a consequence those of us using “southern Africa” for our common names, are now getting Afrikaans names instead of the global English names.
At present the only way to fix this seems to be to also assign the English names names to “southern Africa” - however, the volume of work this entails is quite daunting.
Why if my Locale is English, is iNaturalist showing me Afrikaans names, when the English names exist?
All our Afrikaans and English (& Zulu, Sotho, and other languages) names were supposed to have been loaded into iNaturalist when we migrated in 2017, but this has been put on hold as the negotiations between SANBI and iNaturatlist proceed. By the time this is done, it looks like a sizeable proportion of names will have been added by users already.
