Seriously unhappy - need advice on using the new iOS app

I have been an iNatter maybe from the beginning; this new version is making me crazy; it will now download my observations, I am heading for Borneo and would really like to be able to use it. Could someone please give me some advice

Hi Leslie, can you please explain your situation a bit more so that we can resolve your issue; difficult to figure out what’s going wrong without details

I assume you’re talking about the app and not the main browser site?

The main site is unchanged, but the new app definitely has issues that make it problematic to use at times.

However, the old app is still around, renamed as iNat Classic, so if it’s an app issue one solution is to revert back to the older app.

If you haven’t already done this: go to the menu (in the lower left), then tap Settings (with the gear icon). Turn on “Advanced Mode” with the switch at the top, and make sure to choose “all options” under the first setting, as well as “Edit observation” under the second setting.

Have you logged in to your leslie_flint account in the app? You’ll need to do that.

If you can share a screenshot of what you’re seeing, that would be helpful.

Personally, I have found it helpful to keep both the old and new versions on my phone. They don’t interfere with each other in any way, and I can use the old while getting used to the new one. The new one is awesome! But took a while to learn how to navigate around.

The dreaded learning curve! It’s been steep for me, the anti-techie analog kind of person, me.
The curve will flatten as you keep on, we do feel your frustration!
Use both iNat and iNat Classic as long as it takes to learn the new!

On your trip do your best to use the Classic. It’s what you know! This trip is too good to let this frustrate you.
BTW I do not directly shoot and upload from the field, either app version.
Good luck
You’ve got this

I love iNat so much, but I just can’t use the new app. I’ve given it a fair shot and switched back to Classic. I recommend you do this and you’ll be much happier.

Thanks for those suggestions

I have been using both iNat and iNatClassic; and will keep them both because the new version is slower for me right now. I often shoot and upload in the field if I can, but if there isn’t any cell service, I upload when I get where I do have service. But good advice to just use the Classic version.

Hi Tony, yes I logged into my account! I just deleted the app and re installed it. I took new pictures of the one that wouldn’t load and it is working now.

The new app being slow is the main reason I retain the old version too. Being able to quickly just take pictures and create and observation and move on is very necessary. Hopefully down the line there can be optimizations or options to trim some of the slower parts of the new app.
