I also wanted to point out that the on-boarding text for new users says “Name what you saw if you can, but it’s OK if you can’t. Others may help you identify it!”
To me that implies not adding an ID is as good as adding an ID, and that if you don’t know what it is down to species, you may as well leave it blank. (Others may interpret it differently.)
As a simple first step in getting rid of unknowns, that text could say something like “Identify what you saw to a level you have confidence in, for example ‘plants’”.
