I would also add that one’s own academic field or interest might heavily influence the mindset they approach these kinds of questions. Coming from a paleontology perspective might give you a vastly different interpretation of something than coming from the perspective of a field biologist. Not to mention which level for a taxa we might personally place more or less emphasis on when discussing these things ie: do we care if they are the same subspecies or not…

Indeed. Many wildlife reintroductions disregarded subspecies for practical reasons (e.g., limited sources to obtain animals or extinction of the native form).
