In September 2024 i spent a week in Budva-Becici in Crna Gora-Montenegro,
often swimming in the adriatic Sea. There I watched three times a Common Kingfisher (Alcedo Atthis) diving and catching fish, successfully! It sat on a rock at the fringe of a wood-covered peninsula! I did not know yet that this species is not only hunting in freshwater, but in salty water as well! Has anybody seen this before? Of course I did not take my camera with me when swimming in the sea, so you can only just believe me!

In Slovenia, it is known to come to Sečovlje saltworks (the abandoned part is now a wonderful mish mash of sallt marshes and pools, and water can be very salty) after breeding and feed there during autumn and winter, and its actually one of the more important overwinterng sites here.
