Please fill out the following sections to the best of your ability, it will help us investigate bugs if we have this information at the outset. Screenshots are especially helpful, so please provide those if you can.
Platform (Android, iOS, Website): website
App version number, if a mobile app issue (shown under Settings or About):
Browser, if a website issue (Firefox, Chrome, etc) : Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari
URLs (aka web addresses) of any relevant observations or pages: any species with male and female
Screenshots of what you are seeing (instructions for taking a screenshot on computers and mobile devices: https://www.take-a-screenshot.org/):
Description of problem (please provide a set of steps we can use to replicate the issue, and make as many as you need.):
Step 1: Open the species page for any species with male/female designations.
Step 2: Click on “View More” to see more photos.
Step 3: The photo page that opens has the sex filter set to “female” as the default, instead of “any”.
This adds a step when trying to view pictures of a species. Default should be any, then a user can click to filter by sex if desired. Not all users even add annotations to their observations, and defaulting to female cuts out most of the photos.
No bookmarks. I thought maybe it’s a cookie thing, but I cleared my cookies and cached files and it still does it. It happens on my office computer, home computer, and iPhone. Maybe just something wonky on my end. Not a huge deal, I guess.
As a staff member I can log in as you and test it out. Let me know if that’s OK with you. Then I can see if it’s replicable on my device but using your account. If you’re not comfortable with that, I totally understand.
I’ve had similar oddities with the ‘view more’ portion of the website.
I suspect it’s browser related, not iNat related, but I’m not sure.
Sometimes I’ll click the ‘view more’ and it’s defaulted to a setting I never used. I’ll reset it and it’ll be fine for a while, or it’ll randomly set to something else.
Try setting to ‘any’, then clearing cookies and cache (and yes, that’s immensely annoying as it results in needing to log back into everything). Or logging into iNat on a different browser and then going to ‘view more’ after having reset it to ‘any’ in the initial browser (this should tell you if it’s a browser or iNat issue).
