Well I learned about bee anatomy today

This bee landed near me while I was working in the garden and it seemed to be doing something strange with its mouth so I took a few photos to see what was going on. It really looked like a parasite was attacking its mouth and it was trying to remove it. Luckily I’m a ‘let nature run its course and take photos of it doing it’ type of person and didn’t try to help as it turns out this is just normal bee mouth parts. I guess the bee was just cleaning them or something. There’s a video here of how this whole contraption works https://www.museumoftheearth.org/bees/biology

Great photos!

My favorite thing about watching bees is their cat-like behavior of using front legs to clean antennae off when leaving a flower
