I’ve had a garter snake come up to about 3~ feet away from me while I was sitting by a puddle looking at frogs. I think if you sit there long and still enough it can happen.

Hi Ntokoto, the practical and potentially legal advice will depend on which region/country you live in. Most users of iNaturalist are in the US, and then probably Europe, so keep that in mind.
If you live in a region with plenty of snakes/medically important snakes, you may be able to join a group that relocates snakes from peoples places. This is a great way to see a large number of snakes while doing something useful, though you generally find the same few species most of the time.
