Funny, I had a similar idea for a project recording life on trees. I like the idea for the project.
You could still make one for living trees.
Oh darn it! I added observations with living trees! Now I have to remove them.

Wasn’t there another project for first observations of an organism on iNat (not first everywhere)? I thought there was, but I can’t seem to find it.
I’ve never seen a project for that. I would love to see it though if it does exist!
I definitely remember it being discussed here, but not sure if it existed already or someone wanted to make it.

Maybe some sort of Mandela Effect at work here for you & me, @fffffffff , because I’ve been searching for projects named “First” and can’t find it. 
The closest I can find is iNat Observation of the Day which sometimes has iNat firsts, but not exclusively.
Also, seeds and fruits is another cool project.
