What on Earth is that?

Have you ever encountered something that was so bizarre that you couldn’t even begin to classify it? Maybe you weren’t even sure if it was something living or not. I’ve had a few (and this post is in part a shameless plug to get some eyes on these observations that might have a better idea than I do. They’ve gone a few years without any guesses now). For example these two separate observations of what I jokingly refer to as ‘alien eggs’. I made my best guesses for each at a broad-level ID, but I’m not confident that even that very general ID is correct:

So, what observations have you made that had you saying “What on Earth is that?”

I thought maybe this was plastic fishing gear, but it seemed like maybe cartilage. So, I was unsure.

Probably this? I still don’t know if it’s something organic or not

There’s a relevant project for odd and mysterious finds: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/weirdwildwonders

This one kind of reminds me of what inky caps look like after they deliquesce (absolutely not convinced that’s what it is, though). That is a bizarre one, too.

Wow, that is bizarre. It looks like someone had a good idea of what it might be, though. Lots of weird things to find washed up on the beach.

I tried google image search on it and from what that found it does appear to be cartilage from a ray or a shark.

 What I find intriguing are the “ beaded strands” to the left and right of the “ large bead” in the first photo. Strange.

I’ve been so confused as to what on earth this is!
Found it in a stump. So far it’s left me stumped too.

I think this might be from Family Xylariaceae but it took a bit of digging and I’m still not sure if I’m right. Looks like a collection of blackberries growing out of a fallen log.

Wow, not even a good agreement at the kingdom level. You did find a strange one.

I thought these toad eggs were some kind of freshwater siphonophore…

Some sort of scale would help. I generally include all or part of a ballpoint pen for small things, all or part of a wife for big things.

Some sort of context would be good. I generally include a scenery or general area photo.

Still have barely any idea what this could be

Cnidarian? Some organ? IDK.

This crazy tube worm like thing that has received zero attention.

Wow, yeah that looks like some type of organ or something. The left-hand side suggests something internal and I think it was left by a picky hunter.

EDIT: Upon looking at the other photos I have changed my mind.

But the question is, did they taste like blackberries?

I probably have plenty of old stuff that I can’t remember but I recently came across this thing which I first though was a spider, though I would guess is some sort of swallowtail caterpillar:

As well as this (bacterial?) growth on a small tree:

I did a bit of digging and will proceed to spam some images of mine:
