There’s this old looking male feral cat that comes to my woods area in the back. I named him Swirls. Recently when I was going through the footage on my trail camera I saw him walk by. But what was unusual is that he was meowing to himself while walking. He also does it when he’s with his friend Blackie. I keep hearing him say “how how how”. So is this a habit that cats do or is it something else? Can any experts out there please reach out to me for any answers?
March cats are doing it in April too, it’s the mating time and both sexes are known to cry loudly for a partner.
It’s called caterwauling.
