Hi,
Am I missing something? When I search for observations on android app there’s an option to find all observations with a particular annotation. When I do the same on PC on the Identify page it is there as well. But there’s no such option on the Explore page, which is too bad because I want to have a map of one species with only the nymphs on it. Strange. Am I doing something wrong?
It’s not shown in the list of search options, but it’s still available. If you’re on a PC, you can run the search you want in Identify and then copy the search parameters part of the URL into Explore. For example, I copied the nymph parameters back into Explore and got this: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?term_id=1&term_value_id=5.
See more at the Search help wiki.
As far as why, it’s because the Explore page was written a long time ago in now-outdated code, and rather than add improvements to it over time, such as when annotations were added to the website, the staff have been waiting to just completely rewrite the page. You can weigh in with ideas for that redesign here: https://forum.inaturalist.org/t/ideas-for-a-revamped-explore-observations-search-page/8439 (filtering by annotations is already on the list)
Glad to know that a way to filter by annotations is on the list. Larva, anyone :)
You can also make a collection project that filters by annotation.
