Wikipedia Observation Image Use Tab on the Yearly Stats Page

Platform(s), such as mobile, website, API, other: Website

URLs (aka web addresses) of any pages, if relevant: https://www.inaturalist.org/stats/2025/theresephillips

Description of need:
Describe the iNaturalist community need that your requested feature addresses. Include screenshots, URLs, and other details to help us all understand the issue.

For the purpose of what websites are using our observation posts, I would like to see Wikimedia and Wikipedia contributions in the ‘Broader Impact’ section of the year in review page. Additionally, I think it would be great to have a specific observation field to link the Wikipedia article to the observation of where the observation image was used in.

Feature request details:
In detail, describe the feature you are requesting. This includes its functionality, where the feature is implemented, and what it might look like. Screenshots or mock-ups are helpful. The idea is to have a concrete and actionable request which the community can discuss and vote on. It might change through discussion, but it’s much easier to iterate and talk about something specific.

See above

An observation field probably wouldn’t be feasible, since it would be inaccurate if the image was later removed from an article, and one image can be used in multiple articles. The reason why Wikimedia isn’t in the Broader Impact section is because there’s no direct link between the two websites (unlike something like GBIF) - it’s entirely up to individual editors to upload iNat photos, and impossible to tell if they have done so (outside of maybe some scraping or API trickery, I’m not sure).
