This may be an option very soon as my oldest son starts at the school in September. I’d happily lend them a trail camera too. There may be other options until then though. I’ve seen them in various places around here but nowhere that’s easy to photograph.

One of my neighbours once told me he saw an alien space ship land on our rural road. My first thought (after backing away slightly) was, imagine the reaction on iNat if you were the first to post an alien life form!

When the labels on plants in places like greenhouses and garden shops become annoying. Just “Petunia” isn’t enough! What species of Petunia is it?! I want binomial nomenclature darn it!

Here in Mexico they are named they are not always named according to their scientific names (speaking about garden shops, greenhouse, etc.). And if they are, they’re labeled incorrectly. For example, once in home-depot I saw a Pachystachys lutea plant being sold and labeled as ‘‘pistachis’’…

Probably you’re describing when you IDed a blue caterpillar as a hairstreak caterpillar at first (I still can’t forget it)…

And BTW, ornamental Petunias are almost always Petunia x hybrida.

And they have a very extensive Wikipedia entry…usually I just get a line about how this insect is a species with x observations, but this one was very descriptive!
