I’ve been wearing “camo” almost daily 3 seasons a year for over two decades. It’s not wanting to look like an adventurer at all. It’s all about the blending in and NOT looking like anything but background. I have seen a lot more wildlife this way. And startled many, many humans. (Not on purpose, but the general public in public parks remain unaware of surroundings.)
I remain seriously into iNat!
Just think of it as a challenge! ; )
Our third daughter and one of our grandchildren are flying in in a few weeks. This daughter is terrified of spiders to the max! I’m giving them strict orders *not* to kill any spider they find in the house, yet rather call me and I’ll ID it. If it’s one in my collection, I’ll let him/her go. If not, I’ll collect it. The collection is so that at least the grandchildren can look at them up close and I can tell them about the spiders. My favorites are the jumping spiders, yet those are the ones my daughter is most fearful of. “Boy” spiders wear “boxing gloves” is enough to get them to look closer at a spider.
Since we live near a park, we’re used to critters entering our home such as mice and snakes, yet birds and a large hawk make it into the screened-in back porch. This year we’re not putting out any bird feeders, even though we only put out hummingbird bird feeders. Any seed feeders that attract song birds is a buffet for the nearby owls, unfortunately, so we don’t use those at all. So we planted extra cardinal flowers and they’ll have to wait till they flower.
The kids are always scared of the big, fat Carpenter bees flying around, so I tell the kids that they’re not after them unless they’re made of wood.
I made a camo jumper/dress several years ago and I’ve received a lot of compliments from guys, when my husband is not around. One summer while driving on our vacation, I’ve had 2 girls wanting to buy it right off of me! One was in full camo herself, the other at a restaurant we stopped at on the way. When my husband is with me, which is always when iNatting, I make him wear clothes that are in nature’s colors also.
🎵Oh, I still love bugs, anything….🎶
Dang, I don’t know why that happened again! Sorry folks!
Weird… but it copy/pastes correctly: @Ba_humbugi

When you get a terrible photo of one of your favorite birds, but you aren’t even disappointed and you’re just happy you saw one at all
when your parents think you’re joking about photographing the mold on a strawberry at Wal-mart.
Oh my gosh I didn’t even think of that…haha I’ll start doing that now
You make it a point to check iNat even while on a night out clubbing and being less than sober :)
Don’t Drink and ID!!!
Literally me in a nutshell.
me too doing same thing lol,
Yes, please don’t, nobody wants to have to explain to everyone why they IDed four dozen frogs as squirrels : )
Same. for sure
I dunno, I think that could be a pretty entertaining read.
(kidding)
Thank you for the correction of my post! I think I know what I did and I’ll stop having to indent a few spaces for each new paragraph. I’ll need to remember each time. Thanks again! Cathy
I hadn’t thought about it that way, good point!
Yes, don’t (unless it’s something easy )
I think my seriousness is being tested. I want to get a photo of some rabbits which I can see from my bedroom window but are too far away to photograph. I think I can sneak closer without disturbing them if I’m careful but they’re in the grounds of the local primary school and I’m not really sure I want to be seen hanging around in the bushes outside with a telephoto lens No one has recorded a rabbit in my county though so…
Maybe you could contact the school and ask permission. Let them know you think it is worthwhile because it would be the first iNat rabbit observation in your country. You could even offer to create a place or project for the school in iNat that the teachers can have a resource to use with their own classes.
