Your best photos of the week!

Im back again with more bees! Eastern Carpeter bee (Xylocopa virginica), I know these guys get a bad rep but they are one of my favorites. Photographed on a stonecrop flower.

So far so good!

I’ll choose this drone fly for the week.

This week hasn’t been that good for me because it has started raining again. In the middle I used to get, like 15 observations per day, and now I just get like, 2-4 per day. But this is the one I like best from this week. I really like how the compound eyes are visible.

It is a Long-banded Silverline. Observation on iNat is at https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/313306545.

This was one of my favorite shots from last week’s nighttime excursion. Red-spotted Toad (Anaxyrus punctatus)

@macrotim, look! A butterfly head (not as good as yours, though) but just like it happened to you, it didn’t stay lobg enough to take another photo of it!

Nice! Yeah, I was using a very high magnification lens, so the butterfly’s head was barely small enough to fit in the frame. Still not really getting any decent photos recently (again, focusing on microscopy on the local springtails), so probably won’t post this week.

Photo #1. Not a good photo at all, but it’s a frog and I don’t have much better photos this week.

Thank you! And the first photo is actually very cute!

Just sharing (contests make me nervous).

This is Metylophorus purus, a common enough bark louse, emerging from its final nymph moult, prior to pumping up the wings.

I’m going with the young snapping turtle, @whistlingduck, for the poll, unless I find something better. Just letting you know!

Thanks! I found it was very hard to focus onto the frog, and it was late, so I just went with these ID-able shots even though I could have gotten better ones.
