I was browsing the identify list a few days ago, looking for unknowns or anything familiar enough to identify, and saw some plant called “zarcilla”. I thought “isn’t that an ornament worn on the body?” That’s “zarcillo”, which I’ve seen a few times in the Bible (Prov. 11:22, Ex. 32:3); it’s an earring or nosering, from a Latin diminutive of “circulus”. (It also means “tendril”, which I didn’t know.) The word “zarcilla” is unrelated; it’s a diminutive of “zarza” (bramble), but the zarcilla is a monocot unrelated to brambles.
