Add taxon_id to the spreadsheet when downloading check lists

When you download a checklist, using either of the download links on the page

You get no control over what data is exported, but inexplicably, in neither of the 2 is taxon_id included in the output. This would seem to be a core datapoint for any ability to use or integrate the data. Can it please be added to the generated extract.

Can you give an example for the use of taxon_id?

A couple suggested uses:

  1. If using the species list as part of a database analysis, the taxon_id is a guaranteed unique ID that can be used as a data table “key”.
  2. If using the list as a basis for further data queries via the APIs, many queries require taxon_id as a parameter rather than taxon name.

The iMapInvasives program is working to crosswalk our taxon IDs to iNaturalist’s so we can use the API to search for our species of interest. I have a couple iNaturalist projects with some invasives added, but the export only includes the project’s checklist taxon IDs, not the global iNat taxon IDs, so we can’t use it to crosswalk species codes.
