Platform(s): website
URLs: https://www.inaturalist.org/flags
Description of need:
Currently, the ability to quickly and easily surface taxon flags that might be of interest to a particular curator is limited. At present, and as far as I’m aware, there is not yet any way to subscribe to notifications regarding flags or flag activity for particular taxa.
The flag page does allow filtering on a specific taxon, but it only allows for filtering on one taxon at a time. If one wants to monitor multiple taxa for flags (e.g. only the plant families with which one is familiar), one must perform a separate search for each individual taxon. This can be cumbersome if the curator is interested in a large number of taxa but there are also a large number of sister taxa outside of the curator’s current interest.
Feature request details:
A mechanism to either (a) filter on an array of multiple taxa (rather than on one single taxon) at one time, or (b) filter on a list – in the same manner as we can for observations (e.g. https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/identify?quality_grade=casual%2Cneeds_id%2Cresearch&list_id=4472754&place_id=any).
This would allow curators to substantially decrease the number of bookmarks they must check in their curation efforts – which in turn makes curation just a little bit easier, which hopefully in turn increases the frequency and volume of investment that individual curators give, and thus contributes to a higher quality and more up-to-date taxonomy for iNaturalist.
