If I remember correctly, iNaturalist currently recognizes the following kingdoms:
Viruses
Archaea
Bacteria
Chromista
Protozoa
Fungi
Plantae
Animalia
For a total of eight. One of my iNat goals is to get at least one, non-casual observation of each kingdom. As of now, I am missing three: Archaea, Chromista, and Protozoa.
Do any of you have all eight? How long did it take you to get them?
Do any of you have any of the three I am missing, and can give me advice how to find them?
Looks like the one to get to RG out of the Archaea is Sulfolobus solfataricus. Just gotta dig up my old Yellowstone pictures and see if I have an image of the Morning Glory Pool and I’ll have this Kingdom taken care of.
I have lots of pictures / often visit geothermal areas in Iceland.
How does one know what to look for to identify archaea within them?
For bacteria, Star Jelly fairly easy to find for species level example. The ones I’ve found have been in car parks and at the side of roads in town centre.
For protozoa, just turn over dead rotting wood and photograph any weird fungus-like matter you find with a macro lens or hand-lens - you’ll come across slime mold easy enough.
