Are fossils valid observations?

I do a lot of fossil collecting and was wondering if it’s acceptable or whatever to upload fossils

Edit: I can attribute location and strata age to my fossils, would that still be casual?

Good question, I have a few myself, two I can attribute a location to

They would be considered ‘casual’ as they are not ‘recent’ evidence of an organism

This is correct. Fossils are not generally considered to be appropriate for iNaturalist, which is intended for neontological observations (members’ experiences with nature, as staff usually put it).
Fossils are specifically mentioned in the Help pages as non-“verifiable”, thus not being eligible for Research Grade.

But what’s so bad about posting them? Casual observations have a place too.

A few fossil observations here and there are OK, but iNat’s not a place for uploading fossils

Its purpose is really for extant taxa. I’d suggest using another platform for fossils. See the many previous conservations about fossils on the forum.
