You are kind of correct. The cub is very dead. I have additional photos of the male and dead cub showing the cub’s entrails… It was gruesome and sad to see. I think the dead cub must have wondered into the males territory in this case as we all also saw a female that day with 2 live cubs. There were several photographers there with their huge cameras. All the bears were up on a hill on the other side of a stream from where we were. State officials eventually closed the road to get there completely, to anyone but residence as the bears were drawing too much attention. Prior to that we had to walk up. Only residence could drive up. Here is the female with one cub. The other one wondered off by this shot.https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/137505190
