As a mom, I know about those days you have to haul that cub up!
I don’t think that was a cub…
I may be wrong or you didn’t see the second photo?
I think that the bear is eating another one. I also noticed that the bear being carried looks kind of messed up around the legs, I don’t think any bear could survive with that
The bear is an adult male, and is sadly killing a female’s cubs, likely so it can mate with the female. This often happens with predatory mammals such as lions, leopards, etc.
Nice photo! Just curious, but what gear did you use?
Well, then. I stand corrected.
I didn’t realize a stinkbug could look this cool.

Check out this bad to the bone looking one!
(This comically bright one is the one I’ve seen most often though.)
Changed my lens from a 100-500 mm zoom to a 24-70 mm zoom with an 18 mm extension tube in hopes of getting better photos of miniature orchids. Still working out the kinks but got this photo of a larger Cavendishia adenophora and really love the intricate details of the petals and bracts.
This is probably mine, of a Whinchat, you can even see its whiskers. I didn’t even have a great camera back then, just a little Lumix. https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/40103856
Wow! what I love most about the forum is coming across links like yours, that lead to species with which I am totally unfamiliar. (I just had to look, to see what a whinchat is.)
And then falling down the delightful rabbit-hole of reading your profile, then visiting your website which details extensively your birding experiences of the past 25 years. 25!
This is one of my favorite forum topics: No polite (or heated) disagreements. Just lots of enticing rabbit-holes, down which I happily fall…
Im very proud of this photo i managed to take yesterday of a dragonfly nymph since they are usually so elusive and hard to find
Oh, that’s beautiful!
You are kind of correct. The cub is very dead. I have additional photos of the male and dead cub showing the cub’s entrails… It was gruesome and sad to see. I think the dead cub must have wondered into the males territory in this case as we all also saw a female that day with 2 live cubs. There were several photographers there with their huge cameras. All the bears were up on a hill on the other side of a stream from where we were. State officials eventually closed the road to get there completely, to anyone but residence as the bears were drawing too much attention. Prior to that we had to walk up. Only residence could drive up. Here is the female with one cub. The other one wondered off by this shot.https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/137505190
From and art perspective this is probably not the best photo ever but from other perspective it is pretty darn cool in my humble opinion.
Love this, nice shot.
Thank you!
WOAH! You’re HIM? This is probably my favorite picture for memes, I even made a WhatsApp sticker with this one
