It depends on your level of commitment. Making birdhouses is a good thing, and you can often get the materials for free. I find mostly all of my materials in peoples’ garbage. The houses are often easy to make, just make sure to use untreated wood.

I think in the summer with all the leaves for me birding by ear is very important but I am only okay at it.

Birdfeeders and birdhouses would be cool. Birdhouses tend not to work (except if the birds dismantle it to make their own nest, like one of mine) but feeders are my personal favorite.
